Working with BuzzFeed was an exciting opportunity to create fun, culturally relevant illustrations for their collaborations with major brands like Doritos, Alka-Seltzer, Michelob Ultra, and DiDi Food. The goal? Boost engagement by visually capturing how Mexicans experience everyday moments- whether it’s enjoying a snack, recovering from a long night, or sharing food with friends.
As the illustrator and designer, I was given creative freedom to bring my personal style into each piece while respecting the brands' colors and typography. The process was highly collaborative:
The biggest challenge? Avoiding stereotypes while staying true to the essence of Mexican culture—and, of course, working under tight deadlines.
Each brand had a distinct vision:
🎯 Doritos: A bold and playful approach, capturing spontaneous fun.
💙 Alka-Seltzer: My favorite project, as it felt the most personal, illustrating relatable moments of recovery.
🍔 DiDi Food: Emphasizing the joy of food delivery and mealtime traditions.
🏆 Michelob Ultra: Focusing on a refreshing and social lifestyle.
The illustrations were well received, gaining strong engagement and leading to repeat collaborations with BuzzFeed.
✅ Higher interaction rates on Tasty’s social media.
✅ Increased visits to Tasty’s website.
✅ Illustrations designed for interaction, encouraging users to screenshot, play, and respond.
This project was special—not only because of the creative freedom but also because BuzzFeed found me through my work on Instagram. It started as a freelance gig, but it turned into an amazing opportunity to showcase how design and illustration can bridge culture and engagement.
